PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Nurse Manager – Observation / PACU

This Registered Nurse has 24 hour responsibility for the direction of operations, unit staff and support of patient care activities in pre-admission / pre-op recovery. Observation / PACU includes the Pre-admission Unit, Pre-op Unit, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit.  This RN position provides direction to the staff in these areas and is responsible for physician relations, staff development, quality development, quality improvement and patient / family education.

The PACU Manager, in collaboration with the Executive Director, develops and maintains an environment that supports quality care and customer support for inpatient and outpatient surgical services from pre-admission pre-op and post-discharge from the recovery areas, including the collection, analysis, and dissemination of clinical and financial data to support evidence-based decision-making by clinicians and management.  

This RN position manages Observation / PACU by aligning operations and performance improvement activities across multiple entities, placing emphasis on integrating policies, standards of care, staff recruitment and training, and capital equipment purchase and maintenance. This RN serves as liaison between Medical Staff and Hospital Administration and is accountable for maintaining compliance with all applicable JCAHO, county, state, and federal agency laws, regulations and standards. 

REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration - Masters Degree preferred
  • Current CA RN License - Unrestricted
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive management responsibility within Perioperative Service Line or related administrative experience
  • Clinical Background – having sound clinical assessment skills and the ability to make independent decisions regarding patient care
  • Demonstrated Leadership – cost reduction, productivity enhancement, interdisciplinary practice with emphasis on quality/performance improvement within a surgical focused product line
  • Problem Solving – working with physicians, administration, and hospital staff
